Il nucleo di Intragna e le sue frazioni (Calarico, Vico, Cambiesso) si stagliano visibili sul fianco ripido della montagna non appena si giunge nei pressi del ponte Nivia, prima di intraprendere i tornanti che salgono al paese. Un tempo popolato da oltre 1300 abitanti, oggi risente degli effetti dell’abbandono ma mantiene in vita il suo Circolo, sede della storica Società di Mutuo Soccorso. Il centro storico è attraversato da stretti vicoli che salgono e scendono, con ripidi scalini ricavati in la pietra locale. Nei dintorni del nucleo abitato vi sono numerose cappelle votive, la più curiosa delle quali è quella dedicata a San Fermo che, secondo la tradizione orale, avrebbe il merito di mantenere ferma e stabile la frana sottostante che in paese viene chiamata “l’Abisso”. Alcuni lavatoi e fontanoni sono disseminati nel paese e nella frazione di Cambiesso, dove la fontana antistante il piccolo oratorio veniva addobbata con le rape in occasione dell’annuale festa autunnale dei Burdugn.
The centre of Intragna and its hamlets (Calarico, Vico, Cambiesso) stand out visibly on the steep side of the mountain as soon as you arrive near the Nivia bridge, before you take the hairpin bends that climb up to the village. Once populated by more than 1,300 inhabitants, today it is suffering from the effects of abandonment, although it still keeps alive the “Circolo”, which houses the historical Mutual Relief Society. The historic centre is crossed by narrow lanes that go up and down, with steep steps made up of the local stones. Around the residential area there are numerous votive chapels, the most curious of which is the one dedicated to San Fermo who, according to the oral tradition, would have the merit of keeping the underlying landslide still and stable. In the village the landslide is called “L’Abisso” (the Abyss). Some wash-tubs and big fountains are scattered in the village and in the hamlet of Cambiesso, where the fountain in front of the small oratory was decorated with turnips on the occasion of the annual autumn festival of the Burdugn.
