Piaggia è uno degli alpeggi più importanti della Valle Intrasca ed è uno dei punti di partenza per le salite alle cime dei monti Zeda e Marona, nonché per numerose altre escursioni. Il piccolo Oratorio della Madonna del Rosario, che sorge a Piaggia, ha conservato praticamente immutata l’originaria architettura. Si celebra la festa ogni anno la seconda domenica di luglio.
La storia di Piaggia si lega anche a quella della Resistenza partigiana, poiché qui si era attestato uno dei distaccamenti della Brigata Cesare Battisti. Un piccolo monumento sul sentiero, all’entrata dell’alpeggio, ricorda i partigiani che vi persero la vita nel giugno del 1944. L’alpeggio, nei secoli scorsi caricato dagli abitanti di Intragna, Aurano, Scareno, Cambiasca e Vignone, è ad oggi frequentato durante tutto l’anno da una ventina di famiglie, che hanno sistemato le vecchie baite. Per la valorizzazione, la conservazione e la conoscenza storico-culturale-ambientale dell’antico alpeggio di Piaggia è attiva dal 2013 l’associazione “Il Dragone di Piaggia”, formata dai discendenti degli ultimi alpigiani. L’alpeggio è stato dotato di un adeguato sistema idrico, ripristinando i prati invasi dalla vegetazione, recuperando parte dei castagneti, mantenendo vive le tradizioni religiose, culturali e gastronomiche.
Piaggia is one of the most important pasture lands in the Valle Intrasca and it is one of the starting points to climb up to the peaks of the Zeda and Marona mountains, as well as for many other excursions. In Piaggia, the small Oratory of the Madonna del Rosario has kept the original architecture. The festival is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of July.
The history of Piaggia is also linked to the partisan Resistance, since one of the contingents of the Cesare Battisti Brigade was attested here. A small monument on the path, at the entrance to the mountain pasture, was erected in memory of the partisans who lost their lives in June 1944. The mountain pasture, used in the past centuries by the inhabitants of Intragna, Aurano, Scareno, Cambiasca and Vignone, is today frequented all year round by about twenty families, who have repaired the old mountain huts. For the enhancement, preservation and historical-cultural-environmental knowledge of the ancient mountain pasture of Piaggia, the association “Il Dragone di Piaggia”, founded by the descendants of the last alpine inhabitants, has been operating since 2013. The mountain pasture was equipped with an adequate water system; the meadows invaded by vegetation were restored, recovering a part of the chestnut trees, keeping alive the religious, cultural and gastronomic traditions.
