Nei paesi della Valle Intrasca viene tramandata una leggenda in merito alla formazione di questa frana; si racconta che essa sia riconducibile alla presenza di un fantasma che infestava il paese di Scareno.
La leggenda narra che l’imponente smottamento si staccò dal monte in una buia notte d’autunno. Fu causato dal passaggio del fantasma che condotto a forza lontano dall’abitato, per dispetto con un gesto repentino, diede inizio al franamento in cui poi si nascose eludendo la sorveglianza dell’esorcista che l’aveva catturato.
Sembrerebbe che il fantasma dimori ancora a all’interno della frana; questo sarebbe dimostrato dal fatto che i movimenti e gli smottamenti continuano a tormentare questo versante della montagna. La frana ebbe luogo il 19 ottobre 1863; la datazione di questo avvenimento è possibile grazie ad un appunto riportato in un memoriale conservato nell’Archivio Parrocchiale di Aurano.
In the villages of Valle Intrasca a legend says that the formation of this landslide can be traced back to the presence of a ghost that haunted the village of Scareno.
The legend has it that the massive landslide broke off the mountain on a dark autumn night. It was caused by the passage of the ghost that was led forcibly away from the inhabited area; out of spite, with a sudden gesture, it gave rise to the landslide and then it hid inside it, circumventing the surveillance of the exorcist who had captured it.
It is said that the ghost still dwells in the landslide; this would be demonstrated by the fact that movements and landslides go on sill today, tormenting this side of the mountain. The landslide took place on October 19, 1863; the dating of this event is possible thanks to a note recorded in a memorial preserved in the Parish Archives of Aurano.
