Dal ponte del Dragone fino all’alpe Piaggia un castagneto secolare si snoda ai lati del sentiero. Gli esemplari più notevoli si trovano pero’ all’alpe, davanti alla chiesetta e a proteggere la fontana più alta, e all’interno dei terrazzamenti che si snodano sotto il sentiero per Biogna fino a quello per Onunchio e ancora oltre.
Consapevoli di un patrimonio forse unico nel suo genere lungo l’intero arco alpino, i soci dell’associazione Il dragone di Piaggia, in collaborazione con il Parco nazionale Valgrande, partecipano alla Carta europea del turismo sostenibile con un’azione dedicata al recupero di almeno 30 esemplari secolari.
A centuries-old chestnut wood winds along the sides of the path from Ponte del Dragone to Alpe Piaggia. The most remarkable specimens can be found at Alpe Piaggia, in front of the small church to protect the highest fountain, and inside the terracing that extends under the path to Biogna up to Onunchio.
Aware of a heritage that is perhaps unique in its kind along the whole Alpine arc, the members of the association Il Dragone di Piaggia, in collaboration with the Val Grande National Park, participate in the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism with an activity dedicated to the recovery of at least 30 centuries-old specimens.
