Once upon a time…in Vogogna there was a royal Wolf. The old documents do not reveal its origins and how old it was …. Thus begins the legend of the Wolf King, reported by Don Angelo Airoldi in his book “Storia di Vogogna” (History of Vogogna). It tells the story of the Wolf King and its Court who reigned undisturbed between the walls of the Castle of Vogogna after the Visconti family abandoned it. The origin of this character is unknown, to the point that the inhabitants of Vogogna are still called “wolves” and, during the Carnival, the Wolf King and its Court are the undisputed protagonists of the feast.
