The tradition to prepare bread by the community of Cuzzego and to bring it to Cardezza to be blessed and distributed on 17 January, on the occasion of the patronal feast of St. Antonio Abate, has its roots in the centuries-old events of the small oratory of Cuzzego and the nearby churches. During the Christmas period, some women go around the village to collect the offerings necessary to order bread (once the offerings were cereals, which were ground in the mill of Carale). On the morning of the eve of St. Antonio the loaves were taken out of the oven and brought to the Cuzzego oratory to be cut into pieces and immediately placed in the panniers. In the afternoon, on pilgrimage, the bread is transported on the shoulders, along the mule track today known as Via del pane, to Cardezza where eight loaves are offered to the inhabitants of Cardezza. On 17 January bread is blessed in the oratory of St. Fermo and is distributed to the faithful after the Holy Mass.
